ALEX EALES – THEATRE DESIGN
Alex trained at Wimbledon School of Art, graduating in 1997. He works extensively in the UK, US and mainland Europe, especially designing new writing and ‘Live Cinema’ work.
He has worked with renowned theatre director Katie Mitchell since 2008 with four of their productions in Germany selected for the prestigious Berlin Theatertreffen (2009, 2013, 2020 and 2025).
Recently he has worked at the National Theatre, Donmar, Almeida and the Royal Court theatres in London. He has designed operas in the US, Germany, Denmark, France, Norway and Switzerland and in 2016 designed sets for Verdi’s Falstaff in Shanghai (Chinese premiere). In 2018 he designed one of the first new commissions for Tanzteater Wuppertal – Pina Bausch with renowned Norwegian choreographer Alan Lucien Øyen.
Alex is based in London, working at the multi-disciplinary 401 ½ Studios in Stockwell. He continues to design for dance, theatre and opera.
